“How to Best Prepare for the Next Pandemic? Have Healthy People.”
— David Aronoff, MD

Fatigue and brain fog are symptoms that commonly occur after COVID infection and when these or other symptoms continue for 12 weeks after the acute infection, then Long COVID, also known as Chronic COVID or Long Hauler’s is likely the reason. Other symptoms can include cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, headaches, and diarrhea. The symptoms can sometimes be just an annoyance but often they greatly interfere with daily activities.

Understanding the why behind an individual’s development of ongoing symptoms is key to helping resolve the issue. The reasons may be related to nutritional deficiencies, triggering of an autoimmune response or the reactivation of a previous infection as well as organ damage from the virus during the acute infection.

We will help you address your symptoms by taking an in depth look at your nutritional status, markers of inflammation and labs to assess possible co-infections or autoimmune disease presence. With targeted and individualized treatment based on your “why” we will help restore your health using lifestyle changes around diet, stress reduction, and movement as well as specific nutrients and supplements to bolster your immune system and reduce inflammation. Often the treatment will also require gaining good control of any other underlying inflammatory processes including diabetes or a known autoimmune disorder such as Hashimoto’s, Rheumatoid arthritis or Crohn’s disease.

We also encourage all individuals to prevent Long COVID by taking the necessary steps to reduce risk of infection. These steps include immunizations and boosters but gofar beyond keeping up with vaccinations and requires creating and maintaining a strong and well-functioning immune system and reducing factors that create increased inflammation by eating a diet that is low inflammatory and keeping nutrient levels such as Vitamin D in an optimal range. As with severe COVID disease, factors such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, heart disease, and autoimmune disorders lead to increased risk for Long COVID, and with our guidance in improving or resolving these issues we can help you to stay healthy including avoiding infection and minimizing disease and ongoing symptoms if infection does occur. We also encourage anyone who is trying to prevent infection to meet with us for a review of your nutrition and labs including evaluation of your Vitamin D levels, Omega 3 intake, and zinc to best guide you toward risk reduction even when you do not have an underlying health problem.
