About Functional Medicine
Conveniently located to serve Denver Metro, Fort Collins, and Colorado Springs.
Functional medicine addresses the whole person and uses a patient-centered approach rather than the more traditional approach of focusing on a disease state. Functional Medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interplay among various lifestyle factors and the individual’s genetic and biochemical make-up to understand the root cause of their symptoms and illness. Total functioning of the human is a composition of both internal (mind, body, and spirit) and external (physical and social environments) factors and functional medicine designs treatments which address these factors including diet, exercise, sleep, stress management, and social engagement.
Functional medicine brings together conventional medical practices as taught in medical schools across the United States and what is often termed “alternative” or “integrative” medicine tools which focus on prevention of illness through diet, rest, and exercise. The focus is on vitality and therefore goes beyond just the absence of disease. Using scientific knowledge of the body’s biochemical and physiological processes along with advanced laboratory testing and diagnostic techniques, therapeutic plans are developed that use prescribed combinations of botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, stress-management techniques, and prescription medications as needed.
