Conveniently located to serve Denver Metro, Fort Collins, and Colorado Springs.

Functional Medicine’s Approach to Heart Disease & Heart Failure

By 2030, 1 in 2 adults in the US will have obesity, defined as a BMI greater than or equal to 30. But following the old advice of “eat right and exercise” isn’t enough for most people to get to a healthy weight and more importantly to prevent the diseases that their obesity may be signaling are on the horizon.

Functional medicine will examine your sleep, diet, and lifestyle to determine what is best for you. This may include adopting principles from a keto diet, intermittent fasting, or an elimination diet to see if some foods are causing you big problems. We also know that not all people are built alike, and that body mass index (BMI) does not tell the whole story, so we look at abdominal fat and body composition by using waist-to-hip ratio and bioimpedance analysis to truly understand how your weight is or isn’t affecting your health. We often evaluate the gut microbiome and the effects that hormones including thyroid and cortisol may be playing in your struggle with weight loss, and we examine whether you are being sabotaged by your current medications or whether you are getting the right nutrients to correctly digest and utilize your food as energy.
